1. From the article, it was clear that Stormhoek Vineyard used social media to promote and publicise its wines.
Explain the reason(s) for their success in promoting and marketing their wines using this method of promotion.
2. What are the possible reason(s) why Stormhoek Vineyard did not choose to use the traditional method of print or other forms of advertising?
Explain if it is possible to combine both traditional and social media in its advertising.
It does not require them to have large capital or great budget. Using social media is much more efficient in promoting their wines and products and postings on events. Social network as a platform is free , easy to use, open to all. By just designing their blogs with certain features and using certain web applications, sites to allow people to host events by putting up information and people who wants to attend the events can make use of the tools stormhoek set up where hosts put up the details, location, to allow them to sign up,everything is done by people who use and visit their social medial platform that stormhoek use with the click of the button. It is hence effortless and the employees do not have to do anything. It saves time and resources. The advantage is that using social media platform to promote and advertise allows the information to be easily spread and well-received. Furthermore, with the fact that social media platform is a common platform or people these days, the percentage of coming across or reaching these information are higher and more easily accessible.
ReplyDeleteAs mentioned , using traditional methods such as printing on flyers, or any other forms of advertising might not be as efficient and effective. It is much more time-consuming and waste of resources as moving around to distribute
flyers might be tiring and can take up most of the day as it might be hard to finish distributing them .People just walking by and taking the flyers might not take notice of it especially people who are busy and rushing for time. Some might not even bother to take the flyers upon taking , not reading and discarding. This would be wasting of paper and time taken to type and print and the cost of the ink and printing. Other forms of advertising like on TVs, magazines , newspaper, public transports or in public areas might be troublesome and require money. Money might be wasted if they are not effective as disadvantages mentioned above such as people not taking notice
of them. Unlike social media where it is more of a common platform to everyone and percentage of people coming across it will be much higher. For example, while using social media and coming across with advertisements unknowingly, people will pay more attention to them as they are more comfortable with using social media platform . Information and details posted through social media might also attract them easily as they look more appealing and presentable. With web 2.0 technologies , they do not look that dull and more information can be presented with interactive tools. It will be possible to combine both traditional and social media. Even though traditional methods may not be that effective, however together with social media , it increases the chances of their promotion and advertisements reaching out to the public if social media may perhaps might not be that successful or effective.
1) By using the internet, you are able to connect to more people around the globe. People are able to access to the net wherever they are. Furthermore, the internet starts to evolve during that period of time. Thus, people will begins using the internet. The company is smart enough to draw the attention of these users and create a business opportunities for them.A website is easy to maintain and the best of all things, it is free. The company have limited manpower and budget at that period of time, so the best solutions is by using the power of the internet. It is free, easy to use and requires less manpower to maintain the website. With this tool, the company is able to earn money from there as it kills two birds with one stone.
ReplyDelete2) The company is able to go the most standard way which is putting up banner, giving out flyers, setting up advertisement on the television or on the newspaper. However, the company seems to have a limited budget and in order to invest on all these advertising companies, they will go bankrupt if the response rate isn't high. They chose the safer route by using the free internet to promote their brand. It is possible to merge traditional method and social media in advertising. There are people in the world doing it already. For example, they will hand out flyers to people. The flyers will state that the user will have to follow the facebook page, like it and share it on your facebook news feed. With that, you're able to get a free drink or meal from the shop. These are signs of combination of the traditional method and social media. The company is able to combine this 2 tactic to start promoting their brand. They can firstly start by giving up flyers and setting up advertisement all around. Then get the people to follow their social media page. Since the internet can be accessed almost everywhere by anyone, they can do it straight on the spot. After the people follow their social media page, the company can give them some complimentary rewards to keep the customer coming and motivate them to keep sharing. With the combination of the traditional and modern way of advertising, i'm sure it will be able to reach out to many people around the globe and definitely be successful.

Using the traditional ways, it is not as efficient as using social media. Where it takes really a lot of time to design their brochure/flyers or even to print it. The costs of printing can be very expensive and have to spend the extra cost to employ people to distribute these flyers and sometimes people may not even read those flyers and throw it into the rubbish bin which has gone into waste. Nowadays, technology is everywhere that everyone is into Social Media. Social Media is a platform that everyone will be using and it is definitely a good way to do advertising through internet and it is free. It is still possible to combine both traditional and social media because it can still advertise on radios, broadcast television or even having a business card for the customers which people are still currently doing it. But however, I feel that using Social media to advertise will still be one of the better method, to allow drawing larger crowd in a more convenient way than using the traditional method of advertising.

They also do not have to buy ad space from different countries and only require 1 post to reach different people from different countries whereas buying 1 ad space in 1 country only expose themselves to a specific group of people.

The world has become increasingly connected to the internet nowadays, and present companies often develop marketing campaigns and create multiple media channels such as blogs, wikis and Flickr to create and capture the attention of the public. The blogs they created updates viewers by posting promotions and photos of their events online, thereby further promoting and inviting more participants who are interested to attend the next event the following day. It is not only a convenient way but also a useful method to advertise and promote their company. Moreover, the volunteer hosts were well known bloggers as well as wine enthusiast, which enhances the opportunity of getting noticed by the public through contacts of the bloggers. Video links like YouTube were also embedded into their blog for easy accessibility towards users. Other interactive tools on social media also contributed to the success in promoting and marketing their wines.

Explain if it is possible to combine both traditional and social media in its advertising.
Traditional methods like printing ads in newspapers and designing and giving out brochures and flyers is time consuming to achieve what they want in a short period of time as they had limited manpower and budget. Some members of the public may also find it inconvenient with so many leaflets. A high percentage of our community is into social media nowadays, and therefore it is an efficient way of advertising your company through social media platforms. It is possible to combine both traditional and social media in its advertising such as on radios and on televisions which some people still use. Although the traditional method of advertising may not be as effective as using social media, it may help to enhance their chances in reaching out to the public.
1. Social media is able to make the advertisement accessible to people all around the world. This means that more people have chance to see the advertisement, not only restricted to a particular country, but all around the world. This brings more opportunity to the company as the market has widen. With more customers get to know the company, the company is able to gain reputation and then gain profits. The profit is more as compare to traditional ways of advertising, as advertising using social media does not need large amount of capital input.
ReplyDelete2. First of all, Stormhoek is a company that starts from scratch. They do not have much budgets. Due to this constrain in capital, they have to be make full use of their budget. In this case, promoting their product through social media will be more realistic than the traditional methods which requires large amount of capital input. Traditional methods such as advertising in newspapers not only cause money, they also might be completing with other companies that have much more budgets than them for that segment in the newspaper. They might end up not able to advertise on newspapers due to insufficient budget. Fortunately, advertising using social media is a totally different story. There are already many kinds of advertising platforms available in social media such as Facebook and Twitter that cost much lesser than advertising on newspapers. The other reason is because as now is known as the digital era, more and more people are using the internet more often. Especially young people aged 35 years and below, are much attached with social media. Even the elderly are catching up with the pace of the digital development of society. Social media connect people worldwide, there will have chance of more people seeing the advertisement online compared to on newspaper.
It is possible to combine the two methods of advertising. Nowadays, there are something called the ePaper, which is that the newspaper have been brought to internet as well while still publishing it. This reach out to people who are digital smart, as well as people who preferred reading from printed papers. On example will be The Straits Times, which the paper offers online ready as well as printed papers.

They made use of Web2.0 tools to create a corporate website that serves as a communication bridge between their customers and subscribers all over the world. As they are utilizing a free platform as their service there is diminutive to no cost for creating a web page. In addition, it is free and easy to utilize. Anyone and everyone can create it. Also their success in promoting and marketing their wines does not only rely on them using Web2.0 tools but their implementation of video links that allow people to share embedded links to YouTube and the implementation of an RSS feed that will update their subscribers whenever they have something new or on promotional sales. Lastly an e-commerce component that allows visitors to purchase promotional items that may not be their wine product but Stormhoek-branded posters and underwear, who doesn’t want to buy South African Wine branded posters and underwear? Most importantly, it takes as little as one manpower to maintain the webpage as expressed in the paragraph, “When visitors go to the site, they are presented with the latest posting from a Stormhoek employee. “ Thus leading me to believe they were on a very tight budget only allocating one employee to manage and post updates to the blog. Through the blog they launched a campaign where they would have a person host a wine-tasting party each night for a hundred nights with wine supplied by Stormhoek. All they had were the employees blogging about the parties and shipping a case of wine to each hosts across the United States and Great Britain. All hosts were volunteers, which included prominent bloggers and wine enthusiasts and people who simply wanted to throw a party. This leads me to think that the company spent less than a few thousand to have such a colossal event world wide. Just by utilizing the power of web 2.0, which I think is the largest success of promotion and marketing of their wines.

Also the press, radio and television broadcasts are only directed to diminutive targeted region whereas the internet is for anyone and everyone who has access to the internet and searches up wine makes them the target audience. It is possible to combine both traditional and social media into the advertising by posting on the press, radio and television broadcast where people can find them on the internet such as their website, blog, and other social media platforms such as facebook and twitter.
